Representatives of Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, Cassa depositi et prestiti, Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico e Industrial, the European Investment Bank and European Investment Fund, Innovationsbron, KfW-Bankengruppe and Veraventure have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which sets out the foundations of an ambitious initiative dedicated to supporting innovation, knowledge transfer and access to intellectual property (IP). The European Investment Fund will act as secretary and coordinator of the partnership.
This Memorandum of Understanding is the result of EIF work towards promoting a greater awareness and understanding of these areas, particularly within the framework of the EU 2020 strategy. The EIF will act as secretary and coordinator of the partnership.
The IP economy is undergoing major changes and can no longer be considered at national level only. The global “knowledge economy” naturally calls for European scale in any ambitious knowledge transfer and innovation project. To be successful this will necessitate active coordination between European and national like-minded partners. It is in this context that the partners have agreed to join their efforts and establish a tight cooperation to share common experiences and coordinate their actions.
It is expected that knowledge transfer will be one of the priorities of the forthcoming EU Research and Innovation Action plan given the consensus at European level to accelerate the commercialisation of European research, technology and innovation, three important drivers of economic growth and job creation. Responsible practices and efficient European knowledge transfer and intellectual property markets
Responsible practices and efficient European knowledge transfer and intellectual property markets
The Partnership’s activities in the areas of knowledge transfer and innovation are an opportunity to promote agreed responsible practices and make proposals in this respect to the relevant authorities. This is particularly important when publicly funded research is involved and the partners are conscious of their leading role in this respect. Also, adequate ethical guidelines must be in place when technologies with potential societal or human implications are involved. Consequently, the working group will include research organisations in its initiatives.
Among its various initiatives this strategic partnership will analyse, in coordination with the European Commission and other key national and European bodies, the feasibility of joint initiatives in the framework of the EU 2020 strategy.
